About the Song
The lyrical masterpiece “It’s Over,” birthed in 1966, stands as a testament to the creative prowess of Jimmie Rodgers, who not only penned but also rendered the composition originally. This melodic gem saw its debut as a single in 1966, accompanied by the poignant piece “Anita, You’re Dreaming” on the reverse side.
In retrospect, Jimmie Rodgers shared an intriguing anecdote:
During my tenure with Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass at the illustrious Carnegie Hall in New York, a distraught damsel caught my attention amidst the audience. Engaging in conversation, she revealed the fresh wounds of a recent breakup with her paramour. Her poignant declaration, “It’s over,” resonated deeply. Inspired, I retreated to my quarters and penned the soul-stirring composition that would become “It’s Over.” Curiously, Elvis Presley was not in my contemplation as the performer when the song took shape.
Harmonious Echoes: A Symphony of Renditions
The legacy of “It’s Over” extends beyond Rodgers’ rendition, finding a place in Elvis Presley’s musical repertoire. The King, during his televised concert spectacle “Aloha from Hawaii” on January 14, 1973, immortalized the song with a live recording. This captivating rendition surfaced on the LP “Aloha from Hawaii.” Notably, Elvis had previously captured the essence of the song in live recordings for both RCA and MGM in April 1972. A supplementary live recording from February 17, 1972, graced the music scene in 1995 as part of the box set “Walk a Mile in My Shoes: The Essential ’70s Masters.”
